Seven Ways Indians are Spoiling their Health & Solutions.

‘Health is Wealth’ has become a mere bookish proverb rather than actual implementation of it in real life situations. In a name of freedom and liberty people have not only forgotton the values of life but also the requirements of health.

Remember, great people are successful with the disciplined lifestyle along with their nourished talents. To bind up determintion, dedication and discipline is not everyone’s cup of tea. You need mental strength and perseverance along with enriched knowledge to do that.
But, when it comes to your own health, it must be given top most priority. Even our school education must teach students about nutrition’ prior to ‘Newton’.

Government must implement the theories of good health so that it can save huge money later. Good immunity, lifestyle practices, balanced diet are few of them. But primarily we, ourselves have to be conscious regarding our own physical wellbeing.

Here are some reasons why Indians are not doing enough justice to their health & their probable solutions :-

1. Late Night Dinner :

Jainism’ suggests that last meal of the day must be consumed before sunset. And it’s quite scientific. Sun helps us to digest our food well. That’s why a slight nightwalk is advised by the health and fitness experts. Walking for 30 minutes after dinner is significantly smoothens your digestive system. Even our Hindu Vedic lifestyle suggests to have our dinner minimum 2 hours before going to bed. It doesn’t mean you will take dinner at 11:30 p.m. and sleep at 1:30 p.m. The perfect timing of it is around 8 o’clock and sleeping around 10:30 p.m. is highly beneficial.

Remember our school days when we used to wake up so early and sleep early and we hardly fell ill. Even after eating outside foods, bathing in the rain, but now you see how quickly we fell ill with our damaged immunity. If you see our parents, grandparents you will see how well they maintain their food timing with early to bed and early to rise formula. Nowadays mobile, laptop, internet have made our sleep cycle haphazard.

In an interview, Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli shared about the secrets of amazing body transformation from fat to fit. Surely healthy dinner at right time is one of them. He takes it sharp at 7.30pm everydy. If you follow it just for 15 days, you will notice some positive changes in your metabolism for sure.

2. Irregular Physical Workout :

Most of the Indians are ignorant about this. They prefer bike over cycle. Ola over public transport, treadmill over walking and many more. Result? Obesity, Neurological disorders. Cognitive and other health complications. Why don’t they use cycle for short distances? Why don’t they include workout in their daily routine? Why dance, aerobics, yoga must not be as important as other essentials? It’s high time to think seriously. By not doing exercises, we are not only inviting multiple diseases but also shaping poor genes for the next generation.

Most of the youth gather the courage all of a sudden to hit the gym to pump of muscles and gradually they leave it after few months once their motivation level goes down or gym fees go up. Result? Started from zero then back to zero again.

I advise you to avoid rigorous exercise as the hot and humid Indian conditions can cause you exhaustion and dehydration. Yoga, Pranayam, Dance, Cycling can give you tremendous health boost if you include it in your daily routine. 30 to 40 minutes in the morning and same duration in the evening is enough for a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

3. Improper Biological Clock :

Your body is more sincere than you are. Your body is always accustomed to certain kind of food, temperature, water, weather and time span. There is a fixed biological clock of everyone’s body. Our body is a machine and it is prepared for its timely work or duty. If you frequently change it without understanding the signals or clues it is giving, then it will react negatively for sure. Our modern lifestyle is so haphazard that our body struggles to cope with it.

Now a days we take breakfast at 11 o’clock in the morning, lunch at 4:00 p.m. We drink less water more alcohol and soft drinks. We stay awake for the whole night and sleep during day time. Are we not torturing our body in every possible way we can? Are we not damaging our biological clock what we have been maintaining since our childhood days? Yes! we are. Healthy biological clock boosts up our immunity, re-energizes our cells and improve the quality of our genes.

We have a habit of taking bath after having our meal. After having food, blood goes to digest them in stomach. If we take bath after meal, the food remains unattended. So never take bath soon after your meal rather do otherwise for better digestion.

4. Nutrition Deficiency :

Our health always give signals of the internal problems or deficiency we have. Unfortunately most of us ignore it and gradually it becomes a serious health hazard. Our itchy eyes, white spots on nails, ticking sounds of bones, yellowish urine, blackish stool, thick layers on tongue, premature hair fall, small lumps on the body, everything re the reasons of nutrition deficiency of our body.

Buttermilk, Lassi, curd, coconut water, sugar cane juice etc. are good for our Indian weather. But western imitation has compelled us to have more alcohols, sugary drinks and soft drinks. Please don’t fall prey in this marketing gimmick. Think wisely and have a planned diet of carbs with vitamins, minerals, proteins, healthy fats etc. Include wholesome food, take probiotic-prebiotic as per necessity.

In a recent research, it has been seen that a burger remains exactly same, unaffected for months, whereas our homemade foods do not even remain fresh for one day without refrigeration. Did this ever surprise you? I am sure you never thought like that. Its the chemical ofcourse. The modern show off diet is so strong on marketing techniques that it blocked our basic conscience.

In another research, it has been seen that soft drinks have same pH level of a toilet cleaner, that means you can clean toilet with soft drinks without any hesitation, and you’ll get same result. Surprised? It is a high time to think wisely.

5. Ultra Modern Lifestyle :

We know our ultra modern lifestyle has made us a lazy lamb. Avoid using aluminium utensils. Rather use iron, brass, copper or earthen pots for cooking. For shorter distances do cycling and walking. Try to use public transport for going to office. It will be your daily exercise in other way. Use bike or car if you don’t have any other option or in emergency. Strictly avoid the pressure cookers, it only saves time but damages the nutrition of the food and your health too. Food requires enough air, light, water to cook properly. Let’s rely on the natural process of cooking. RO water brings digestion issues and bone problems with many. It only purifies the water, but we need so many other things with water for our body. So, boil water then bring it down to room temperature and drink for healthy life.

Our old Vedic knowledge says that life must be lived, not used. But we are becoming a slave of pleasure, technology and westernization. Similarly packaged foods, junk foods, foods with artificial colours and sweetners must be avoided to rejuvenate your life again.

6. Consuming Random Synthetic Tablets :

Headache? Painkillers. Insomnia? Sleeping pills. Gas? Acidity? take antacid. Cough? Cold? take Cetrizine. Fever? take antibiotics. Don’t let your pharmacist (who generally suggests the medicines he wants to sell) be your doctor. Most importantly don’t take this synthetic medicines as your snacks. It only supresses your symptoms, doesn’t remove it from the root. Antibiotics will not only kill the bad bacterias, but also the good bacterias in you. Result? digestion problem, autoimmune disorders, food allergies and many hidden side effects.

Our Indian Ayurvedic technique based on prevention, whereas allopathic medicine is based on cure. So, allopathic advise must be the last option for you when you need critical care. You can use ayurvedic home remedies for small and temporary diseases like these. It will not only boost immunity but also help you to get rid of harmful side effects

Thousands of years ago, Portuguese, Britishers and others came to our country for the priceless variety of Herbs and Spices. Every herb, spice, bark, tree has its own medicinal values. ‘Ashtang Hridyam’, ‘Charak Samhita’, ‘Bhagbatta Vani’ have explained everything in details for your better understanding.

7. Gadget Addiction Gauge:

Gadget is just a means of making your job easier. It can only shorten the distance between you and your goal. It can never replace your real relationships. The likes and comments under your photos can’t replace the time you spend by playing Ludo with your family. Video calls can’t be a substitute of your face to face meetings. Online games can’t replace the onfield mud ridden football matches. So try to come to the real world by switching off your gadgets. I know it’s easy to say, but if you engage yourself in other activities like dance, playing musical instruments, yoga, cooking etc. then gradually it’s possible. If not in weekdays, try to switch it off in weekend. let’s free up your brain and get time to look within you and around you.

In a recent report by ICMR, too much gadget addiction is causing sinus, migraine, eye problem, obesity, digestion issues, mental rigidness and what’s not. Sometimes, we curb the blinking ratio (28,000 times a day for a normal human being) by constantly looking at the mobiles or laptops. The adverse effect is not only making you mentally stubborn but also physically dull.

Children are falling prey to cybercrime issues. ‘Bois Locker Room’, ‘Blue Whale’ scandals are few of them. The negative impact is on your sexual health as well. Couple are suffering with so many issues like infertility, pre-mature ejaculation, lack of sexual urge etc. Healthy sexual practice needs concentration and your gadget is the culprit in that case unknowingly. So in toto, gadget freak is one of the vital reasons of putting our health at risk.

  3. Well observed points that draws attention to our i'll managed lifestyle. However, I see a strong factor of distancing what isn't 'ours'. For example, initiating with 'Jainism...' vs 'even our Hindu...'. Do I also observe tagging alcohol purely a part of western culture? Vedic India does have sura concept. Also, the way we have copied alcohol drinking mannerism from their west is very questionable - as the way they do it is very different than we do it. Apart form that, I have to appreciate the culmination of the issues and how closely it has been observed - just like a mirror reflection.

    1. Thank you so much for your valuable comment.
Asuras(who used to take Sura-alcohol)...Suras(devta) who stayed away from it. Instead they took 'Soma' or 'Somrasa' which is not alcohol, But stimulant.
Anyway...lot of research works need to be done from my part. Thank you again.
