Survival Techniques of Teachers in This Era of Education-Business
If You are Already a Teacher Then Here are Super Ten Mantras to Enjoy Your Teacherhood
Teachers’ Day is coming within one week. Lakhs of schools will celebrate it all over the country. Teachers definitely feel so special on this particular day when they are treated like no less than celebrities .
They eagerly wait for it throughout the year. Sweets, chocolates, flowers, cards, gifts and what not. Social media overflows with wishes and obeisance. But what about the other 364 days? Very few know the scene behind the curtains. They say teacher’s job is so easy, just like a Cakewalk. But no. Human developing Engineers they are. No one knows the bunch of copies they check with perfection, the amount of tension they put on their legs by standing 6 to 7 periods, the number of nights they spend for making question papers, the amount of loads they put on their vocal cords and the rigorous parents- teachers meeting. The list is never ending. In addition to that the harsh words of the principal and management, even after that they don’t leave any children unattended. How can they?Because 'things can be ignored, thinkers cannot'. How can they obliterate shaping the future minds. Even they never fail to play the role of their parents for 6 to 7 hours everyday. That’s the truth of most of the corners of the country. But the saddest part is that still if you suddenly go to any classroom of the country and ask ‘how many of you want to be a teacher?’ rarely 5 to 10% of them will raise their hands, some will still wonder with doubts. Because our education system, our society says ‘teaching’ is for them who fails to get any seats in medical, engineering and any other high profile courses.
“Teaching” cannot be a choice, it can only be the last and the least option for students. Strange but true. After watching the Bollywood movie Super30 is a living example of that. I hope the notions have been changed a bit. Anyway I won’t give you any moral lecture here on how to be a good teacher. I will tell you how teaching can be the most Aspiring and inspiring jobs than ever.
Here are ten magical points which are going to give you a positive vibe regarding Teaching :
First.
Don’t be a teacher, act like a teacher. That means if you carry all the anger, anxiety, ill-temper to your house because Amit did not do homework then definitely your family members won’t like it. Neither you will be able to spend happy time with them. So if a child is annoying in the class act like scolding him. Don’t raise your blood pressure or prompt your thyroid gland just because Amit is looking continuously towards Neha. Remember, Teaching is more a skill than a profession.
Second.
Keep your occupational hazards out of the threshold of your house. Don’t bring it to your home. There will hardly be any organisation where employees do not struggle for satisfaction and stability. Tussles and tensions will be there. Good moments will also be there. But don’t wear them. Learn to do smart work rather than doing hard work. Don’t be stagnant. If you get a better opportunity it’s fine. Or else don’t hate your job otherwise the hate virus may dismantle your emotional well being.
Third.
No matter whoever your boss is, never tussle with the higher authority, they can make your work life hell out of heaven or heaven out of hell. If they are good, no issues. Try to be in good books of them. Compliment them. Try to follow their words as much as you can. If you can’t, then discuss your problems politely. Hope they’ll understand. Because most of the well qualified high profiles are down to earth. Still if you can’t convince them then simply leave the job. Remember you can’t fight with a lion in a Jungle. Moreover peace is more important than pace and paise.
Fourth.
Keep a sweet fellow feeling for all but avoid being too cosy with your colleagues. We still live in a society where teachers are being judged morally and targeted easily for breaking stereotypes. Moreover the free and open work atmosphere like IT sectors are not available here. The first question people raise “What the children will learn from you?” As if teachers cannot enjoy his life to the fullest. As if he is synonymous to Bhagavad Gita and unfortunately this is the primary reason why teachers switch to other professions after few months of their teaching job. I know many like this. They find it crooked soon after coming from college life. So my suggestions will be, just to keep away your social life from your job life for an uninterrupted leg pulling from toxic work people.
Fifth.
When an elephant is trapped even frogs don’t fail to kick it. So always remain updated. Students can easily notice if you fumble at there abrupt questions. If you are power packed with latest ideas then you can well defend The notorious tentacles of your students. Moreover students like the teachers who are technologically sound. They have a tendency to test the knowledge of the teachers initially. So once you show the glimpses of what really your brain is made of, then the upcoming journey will be smoother. Apart from that if you are working in a public or International School, you will always be under scanner of your colleagues, boss, parents and even the walls of the schools will judge you through your schemata. Their eyes will somewhere feel nudged in front of your capabilities when they will try to find any unnecessary fault in you.
Sixth.
Bring something new into your old classroom. Use different techniques and methods to get rid of the monotony of your class. Remember your B.Ed days. Don’t find shortcuts to anyhow complete your syllabus. If you plan it well it will be completed within time. Use teaching aids, technological clips to class just to show that teaching is not a boring profession and learning is joyful if you visualise and imagine it well. For example, if you are a language teacher and you are teaching writing skill in first period then introduce reading skill in the other. You can carry newspaper or any restaurant bill for the reading skill development. This variety will create interest among students and you will also be able to sharpen your weapons timely. Otherwise if you continue the boring lecture method for two to three periods, it will not only unnecessarily pump up your vocal cord but also students’ minds will become stiff.
Seventh.
It might look little awkward for many people but it turns out to be fatal in some cases. That is, never expose your social networking profiles to your boss, colleagues, students, parents and other office staff. May be in short run it doesn’t look that fatal but you know every movie has a villain. You never know who is showing your nightclub photo to your boss, just to prove that she is a better teacher morally then you. So better you keep them away from your Facebook and WhatsApp. At least restrict them from gossiping over your recent party pic. Because in reality you had taken leave by saying your mother is seriously ill. Now you can understand what I really mean.
Eight. Remember your own school days. Tell it to your students sometimes. Your naughtiness, your achievements, your lessons. Children can learn easily when they see live examples rather than vague bookish words. Meanwhile your job will be easier to teach them by building rapport with them. And best part is that you will ruminate your old-gold days. Explore all your repressed sides which you left long back. During leisure periods, go to the painting class and sharpen your old hand and rejoice that you still can do. Go to yoga colleague and consult some exercises for your stiff calf. You will definitely not feel bored at all.
Ninth. After becoming teacher, we forget our old persona and hobbies which we used to possess during college days. who told you always have to be pumpkin faced Halloween ghost? Absolutely no one. Smiling face, good command over language, right body language, deep knowledge on your subject are enough to impress your boss and spread positive Vibes among students. Don’t change your personality. Teach your students to be original. Teach them that ‘talking is not a crime but talking foul is.’ Don’t forget your old hobbies like playing guitar, cooking, dancing and writing diaries (like me) which all gave you instant fame once upon a time during your student days.
At the end my suggestion would be always try to keep your personal life and professional life poles apart. Don’t bring your boss’ sweet lies to your home, neither you can take your husband’s bitter truths to your school. Remember Shakespeare’s famous lines from ‘As you like it’ That is “All the world’s a stage and men and women are merely players”
you ask me, are these all possible in reality? Yes, these all are possible. Strongly possible. But it’s true you alone can’t change the scenario but you can definitely be the pioneer if you try your heart’s content. Teaching has an essence of losing yourself, finding yourself again. Once out of school then again back to school. But with different roles and new responsibilities. The joy to bring the inner child out of your boring adulthood. Laugh out loud to see the resemblance with the cute naughty boy on the last bench. To see how the first rain bath can create and eternal astonishment in the eyes of the little child. How a teenage boy or girl feels coyish about their first physical change during their puberty. In fact you can observe a whole little world out there and last but foremost the joy to sing National Anthem everyday with deep goosebumps and watery eyes, will surely give you satisfaction as an architect of human personality designing institute. Jai Hind.
